The Funarte Marc Ferrez Photography Award is considered one of the greatest recognitions in the field in Brazil. The selection is made by Funarte, through a public notice, where hundreds of projects from all over the country compete. Pablo Pinheiro (Natal/RN) was awarded this Photography Prize in its 14th edition, with "Uma Tradição nos Rio Grandes – the image of the Contemporary Cowboy in Transition," a field research aimed at crossing contemporary images of traditional cowboys from Rio Grande do Norte and Rio Grande do Sul.
With this project, Pablo Pinheiro proposes a reflection on the importance of the cowboy figure for the culture, economy, and memory of these two Brazilian states, which will be published through a book (trilingual – Portuguese, English, and Spanish), in an online format, available for free download via the Internet. Additionally, as a result of the project, the photographer will travel through 06 Brazilian capitals: Porto Alegre, São Paulo, Campo Grande, Rio de Janeiro, João Pessoa, and Natal. All actions will take place in 2015.
